I was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. When I was growing up, my family divided their time between Little Rock and the Arkansas Ozarks. I received my MFA in Creative Writing from Washington University in St. Louis and my MLIS from the University of British Columbia.

Currently, I live in Utah with my husband and our two sons. I’m the author of three novels: The Possessions (Harper, 2017), Girl One (MCD/FSG, 2021), and The Wonder State (MCD/FSG, 2023). My shorter work has appeared in publications including The Guardian and LitHub.

I love: weird mysteries, Kate Bush, ghost stories, Shirley Jackson, 1970s horror movies, the smell of rain on a hot day, bad puns, and reading in bed.

I also truly love meeting with book clubs, so please reach out if yours is interested! For those of you not based in Southern Utah, I’m available to meet virtually.
